I am a professional mosaic and clay artist based in Placitas New Mexico. I work with a wide variety of tools and found objects to create highly textured pieces of clay art. I often combine my mosaic and clay skills to create one-of-a-kind pieces. My current focus is on decorative wall tiles. My work has been exhibited in shows and in the homes of many private collectors. I am a member of Mosaic New Mexico.
I love the way clay receives impressions and how it affects the glaze. It is always an experiment, even when I am recreating a familiar design. I like to use wooden block print stamps, old cut glass dishes, and anything with an interesting texture to enhance my designs.
Currently I am focusing on hand built decorative tiles. I think of these pieces as talismans as they are created with the intention of bringing a sense of well-being and joy to the viewer.
My landscape pieces are done using bits of plants to create the design. Half the fun of making these is collecting the twigs, stones and plants to create the scene. I enjoy creating a picture of nature using things from the natural world.
