Dana Millen, MPH, Ph.D., has lived in New Mexico for 31 years. Her current artistic medium is acrylic and oil paint – using brush, scrapers, palette knives, and markers to place paint on canvas. Dana describes her work as impressionistic and fauvist, while embracing abstract colors with a fresh Zenlike beginner’s mind.

She is an observer of the world around her and the beauty of existence. In her recent still life work, whether it be food, drink, or flowers, Dana believes that: “Still life takes me to a moment in time, usually of light, of joy – when all that matters is that one precious moment. I want to feel that moment, and bring this joy to others.” Primary among the artists who have influenced Dana’s art is Frida Kahlo and Helen Frankenthaler for their bold and revolutionary work. More recently Dana has gratefully been inspired by Modernists Gabriele Munter, Matisse, Diebenkorn, and Kandinsky. Dana is a member of the New Mexico Art League as well as a member of the artist-owned Gallery ABQ in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
