Barbara McGuire grew up in Albuquerque, NM as the youngest of 5 children. Following high school, she attended Stanford University, graduating with Honors in Human Biology. She returned to New Mexico for medical school, completing a residency in Internal Medicine in Denver, CO.
Attracted by the cultural diversity, spectacular natural scenery and family, she served as a commissioned officer and Chief of Internal Medicine in the Public Health Service in Shiprock, New Mexico. Returning to Albuquerque, Barbara married a Sandia Labs physicist, and continued in medicine, working in diverse clinical settings around the state for over 3 decades and serving in leadership for the American College of Physicians.
After a career in clinical medicine, Barbara developed a special interest in photography as well as a fondness for the technical challenges and luminous qualities of watercolor painting. Barbara joined a local camera club and the NM Watercolor Society (NMWS), taking classes, coordinating workshops and serving in statewide leadership.
As her passion and skill in watercolor painting flourished, she earned Signature Member status in the NMWS. With growing confidence, and deeper passion, her paintings have been accepted into regional exhibitions and she has begun teaching introductory classes for watercolor enthusiasts.
