Artist Statement
I am an abstract art photographer who has a passion for finding beauty and meaning in the overlooked surfaces of everyday life. I capture images that emerge through the effects of nature, human action, and time on urban and rural environments. Surfaces like weathered walls, crumbling sidewalks, and rusted-out vehicles serve as rich subjects for my work. The more these surfaces are broken down—through decay, defacement, gouging, scratching, rust, or splatter—the more intriguing and beautiful they become. It is a reminder that in life, things are not always as they appear. Beauty can be found almost anywhere.
My photography blurs the line between photography and abstract painting. Rather than focusing on representation, I emphasize the elements of abstraction: color, light, composition, form, line, and texture. I evoke energy, emotion, and imagination. My work is created in-camera with minimal post-processing.
I am particularly drawn to pareidolia—finding and photographing meaningful, recognizable images from random patterns. Decay is especially fertile for this, with nature’s chaotic forces and human intervention leaving their marks on surfaces. Our minds naturally seek meaning from these remnants, tapping into our own experiences, dreams, and memories. My work challenges viewers to see the world around them with fresh eyes, revealing layers of beauty in places where others may only see deterioration.
