Biography
Stan Ford is an award-winning nature photographer specializing in landscapes and wildlife. He is based in New Mexico and works primarily in the public lands of the American southwest and west. His formal education led him to complete degrees in Biology (B.S.) and Natural Resources (M.A). His artist style draws upon his knowledge and experience in these fields.
He has earned first place awards in 27 international photography contests and his photographs have been included in multiple shows, exhibitions and publications. His photo “The Shadow” was chosen as the Photo-of-the-Year by the Dona Ana Photography Club in 2020. His first photograph, captured when he met President Kennedy, remains his all-time favorite. Stan was honored in 2016 to be chosen to serve the National Park Service as the “first-ever” Artist-in-Residence at Pecos National Historical Park. He has continued his relationship with the National Park Service since then and currently leads night sky photography workshops at Valles Caldera National Preserve.
Artist Statement
An interest in the environment led me to discover my passion for nature photography. Looking back at my education and career, this is what I was meant to do. My new office is our national parks and other public lands. I find my time in the field to be cathartic. Because of my respect for Mother Nature, I want my art to reflect what I actually see when capturing an image. So, I present “images from a camera…not a computer.” Nature photography is my raison d'être.
