Biography
After finishing her college studies, Susan Hunt served two years in the Peace Corps in Nigeria. She married a fellow Peace Corps volunteer while in Nigeria, and she and her husband came to New Mexico for graduate studies where they fell in love with the Big Sky. She retired from a lifetime of teaching secondary school in Puerto Rico (and abroad) and moved to Albuquerque 16 years ago.
Always a part-time artist, since returning to New Mexico, Susan has concentrated on depicting the beauty she sees in our Land of Enchantment. Besides traditional landscapes produced in oil and watercolor, she has also created a series of hand-painted ceramic tiles, depicting urban scenes in the Nob Hill neighborhood of Albuquerque as well as scenes of the picturesque New Mexico countryside. She went just outside of New Mexico to create four Canyonlands tiles.
Artist Statement
Painting has been my avocation for most of my adult life. Numerous sketchbooks reveal the inspiration I have found from places where I have lived and traveled, and my home is filled with my oil and watercolor paintings.
I have also created many hand-painted ceramic tiles which depict some urban landscapes of Albuquerque as well as some of the beautiful scenery of New Mexico’s countryside. After a visit to Canyonlands National Park in Utah, I had to add scenes from that exquisite place. These tiles are all seen in this exhibit.
