Biography
Born and raised in Texas, Kirsten has a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso. She and her husband have lived in New Mexico for over 25 years, after moving from Texas, Nevada, and Colorado. They are blessed to have raised two remarkable, adult children who are now successful professionals in Phoenix. Before her early retirement in 2016, Kirsten was the owner/president of her company, High Desert Medical, specializing in medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
Living in New Mexico has afforded Kirsten Harvey multiple opportunities to paint the vast landscape vistas, unique flora, and distinctive fauna she encounters throughout this spectacular state of New Mexico. All her life, she attended art classes, workshops, and online seminars. In addition, she has taught several elementary school youth art classes.
Kirsten has shown her work in numerous art and gallery shows in Texas and New Mexico and has a growing following of collectors across the United States, and even some in Europe. In New Mexico, she has participated as a juried guest artist in the Sandia Heights Artist Studio Tour, the Placitas Art Tour, and now the Gallery With a Cause. Selections of her work are also on display at the Tramway Event Center and the Placitas Café.
Kirsten’s art has been inspired by numerous mentors and instructors over the years including Layne Johnson, Ellie and Dimitra Milan, Gabor Svagrik, Manuel G. Acosta and P. Carrillo Gonzalez. She has also taken local workshops with J. Waid Griffin and Tom Blazier.
Artist Statement
As a seasoned artist and nature-lover, I am always seeking inspiration in breathtaking landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and florals, as the subjects for my oil and acrylic artwork. Dante Alighieri eloquently stated, “Nature is the art of God”. Keeping this profound quote in mind helps me stay focused, humble, and grounded, as I endeavor to capture that divine beauty in my artistic journey. The use of vibrant colors, strong composition, and dynamic details are the key aspects reflected in my paintings, producing a dreamlike, ethereal realism-style. My mantra is “anything can serve as a canvas”; therefore, I also enjoy painting on wood, stone, and glass.
Living in New Mexico provides me with a plethora of opportunities to paint in the solace of either a plein air setting, my studio, or from my own backyard. Being an avid world traveler, I embrace travel opportunities to scout for lovely vistas and capture snapshots to bring back to paint in my home studio. Painting brings me tremendous joy, tranquility, and satisfaction, that I hope reflects in my art.
